Applying Public Mental Health to Global Conflict is a speaker series that explores the role of public mental health in research, practice, and policy in conflict zones and post-conflict contexts.

The first event in this series focuses on mental health in Gaza

Host

  • Maya Lakshman: Maya is a first-year doctoral student in the Department of Mental Health, with interests in advocating for youth and families experiencing intergenerational trauma and violence.

Moderators

  • Dr. Yassine Daoud: Dr. Daoud is Professor of Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and advisor to the Johns Hopkins Graduate Muslim Student Association.
  • Dr. Pamela Collins: Dr. Collins is the Bloomberg Centennial Professor and Chair of the Department of Mental Health.

Panelists

  • Lana Sabbah: Lana is a MHS student in the Department of Mental Health who was born and raised in Gaza and is passionate about creating safe and engaging spaces for children amidst conflict.
  • Dr. Nermin M. Abu Libda: Dr. Abu Libda received her MD from the Islamic University of Gaza and is a MPH student at Al-Quds University. As a Research Assistant for the Gaza Community Mental Health Program, she researched and evaluated mental health programs and interventions in Gaza City.
  • Dr. Sarah Murray: Dr. Murray is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mental Health. Her research focuses on using mixed-methods approaches to inform the development of effective strategies to promote the mental health of individuals living in situations of complex adversity and conflict.
